Lot Essay

Blanche Hoschedé-Monet was the daughter of Alice and Ernest Hoschedé, important patrons of Claude Monet until 1877. Even after their patronship ended, the couple and their families vacationed together in July 1978 in Vétheuil. The following year Madame Monet died. Alice Hoschedé married Monet in 1892 after her husband's death in 1891. In the years that followed the Hoschedé children traveled to many of the regions where their stepfather painted including the Mediterranean and London and this influenced Blanche in becoming a painter.
