Her Royal Highness Maharani Sita Devi of Baroda (1917-1986) was called "The Wallis Simpson of India" because of her second marriage to the Maharaja Pratapsingh Gaekwar in 1943, her independent spirit and her passion for jewels. Her exquisite collection, received from the Baroda Treasury, included a seven-strand natural pearl necklace, dating from Mughal times, and a magnificent diamond necklace, suspending the Star of the South (128.80 carats) and the English Dresden (78.53 carats). In addition, Pratapsingh Gaekwar gave her many beautiful jewels such as the "Hindou Necklace". After their divorce in 1956, Sita Devi moved to Monaco.
