Arabic manuscript on paper, 529ff. with 13ll. of black naskh within yellow margins, yellow verse markers, green and red marginal medallions, green and red marginal commentary written diagonally, several pages of opening prayers, bifolia at beginning and end with very bold white thuluth on black cartouches (ff. 4v.-5r. and 517v.-518r.), the final one incorporating part of a colophon sahibubu wa malikuha ibn hamid isma'il bi-khat ibniha, three illuminated double carpet pages with red, yellow and blue foliate designs (ff. 5v.-6r., 249v.-250r., 516v.-517r.), illuminated margins around text on ff. 2v., 168v., 340v., 518v., illuminations on ff. 528v. and 529r., several closing prayers, in margins on last page dhelika nahar subit 21 jumada katibuhu isma'il, another note at top right katibahu wa malikaha al-qur'an ibnaha sumiah hamid minkasari [sic], dated rabi' al-awwal, original brown morocco tooled binding with flap, worn, some pages splitting, spine and flap split

Lot Essay

From the marginal colophon at the end the of this manuscript, it seems that it was copied by Ibn Hamid Isma'il for his daughter, Sumaiah. The name Minkasari might denote a place.
