PART 1: THE CELLAR OF THE HERMITAGE INN, VERMONT
THE HERMITAGE INN IN SOUTHERN VERMONT COULD ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS ONE OF AMERICA'S CLASSIC OLD WORLD, NEW ENGLAND COUNTRY INNS. THE WINE LIST; SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST!
THE 463 LOTS OFFERED HERE IN PART 1 FEATURE MANY OF THE WORLDS CLASSIC WINE PRODUCERS. GROWERS, WHO LIKE THE INN ITSELF HAVE PEDIGREE, BREEDING AND HISTORY, AND WHO HAVE ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES OVER MANY YEARS OF HONEST AND HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL HARD WORK AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. ESTATES SUCH AS: HEITZ, RIDGE, BEAULIEU VINEYARDS, CAYMUS, PENFOLDS, PETRUS, LATOUR, LAFITE, MARGAUX, LYNCH-BAGES, TRAPET, PONSOT, JADOT, DE VOGUE, DAUVISSAT, LEFLAIVE, JABOULET, BEAUCASTEL, CHAPOUTIER, GRILLET AND SO ON.
The restaurant list was as good as any and at one time was well over the 30,000 bottle mark. Today after decades of hard work, the owners have decided to take an easier life and look back at the good times they had at the Inn. An Inn in the truest sense, it was not only a place to rest, but was the hub a tight local country community. A place to meet for the locals before going hunting, hiking or skiing, and of course for the many thousands who came from the world over, it was a place of refined country dining.
For those fortunate enough to be given a tour of the cellar, it was a classic. The conditions perfect. Dug into the side of Mount Haystack, it was, and still is one of the best spaces for wine storage in North America. We have sampled several older wines from the cellar and some of the newer ones (please tasting notes below the lots) to assess the condition, all were excellent. Further to this we will present over 30 wines from this spectacular cellar at the pre-sale tasting (please see tasting page at the back of the catalogue) for buyers to see and taste for themselves.
Don't miss this, cellars like this don't come up that often and please remember Part 2 on October 4th, to be sold entirely 'Without Reserve'.
