The rectangular three-quarter galleried superstructure with two short and one long cedar-lined drawer over a hinged top with green baize lining to reverse above a frieze drawer, over square tapering legs ending in later brass caps and casters, the drawer stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER, with remnants of old depository labels to underside, one printed PARKS' SOUTHSEA DEPOSITORIES, PORTSMOUTH and inscribed 3-35237 Latton, handles replaced
40¼ in. (102 cm.) high, 21¾ in. (55 cm.) wide, 18 in. (46 cm.) deep

This lady's work-table relates to the Gillows design for a satinwood and tulipwood banded 'Sheveret' table of 1790 (reproduced in L. Boynton (ed.), Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 150, and p. 170).

A similar tulipwood and kingwood cheveret table was sold by John Keil, Sotheby's, London, 7 April 1998, lot 78. Another tulipwood example, was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 6 April 2000, lot 77. A further table from the Doris Duke collections was sold Christie's, New York, 3-5 June 2004, lot 889.
