Lot Essay

This elegant serving-table with its removable legs reflects the high quality of furnishings that would have been deemed customary by British Army Officers serving 'under canvas' as camp life was known. A related table with similarly removable legs is illustrated in N. Brawer, British Campaign Furniture, New York, 2001, pp. 22-23, figs. 6-8. Another was recently sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 1 July 2004, lot 44.
