The reverse breakfront top surmounted by a later brass splash rail with reeded bases, urn finials and scroll sides, the case with a frieze drawer over a recessed arched drawer and flanked by a deep drawer to each side, each drawer with reeded geometric borders, on outset spiral-gadrooned legs headed by ribbed double-balusters and with paw feet, with ebony-inlaid borders, the reverse numbered in red chalk G44 and ALP in yellow chalk

This sideboard with its robustly turned and reeded legs is related to the designs and documented output of the firm of Gillows of London and Lancaster (see L. Boynton (ed.),Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, figs. 91-92). A related sideboard, with equally vigorous turnings was sold anonymously, 24-25 January 2001, lot 512.
