The rectangular bead-molded cornice above three glazed mullioned doors enclosing shelves, flanked by further beaded edges, over an outset base with gadrooned edge above three panelled doors, with further beaded edges, on a plinth base

Lot Essay

This bookcase from the collection of Dr. John Shanley (1895-1996), distinguished in the medical field who co-founded the Irish Red Cross Society in 1939, later serving as its chairman in 1946-47. The bookcase formed part of the furnishings of his home at 17 Merrion Square in Dublin. One of Dublin's celebrated Georgian squares, his home was adjacent to number 16 which currently houses the Irish Red Cross.
