Celebrating the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth II respectively, each saddle seat covered in green velvet with trim, on straight legs with canted corners and slight tapering feet, with metal bars to underside, the first impressed 'GRVI CORONATION' beneath a crown, the second impressed 'ER CORONATION' and webbing inscribed 'I RESON'

Lot Essay

These stools were used in the coronation ceremonies of King George VI on 12 May 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953 respectively. They would have been used for as additional seating for guests in Westminster Abbey, many of which were subsequently given to the guests invited to the coronation.
