With X-form divides centered by bellflower wreathes, with acorn finials to corners above a mahogany-lined drawer, on bulbous turned, tapering legs ending in brass caps and porcelain casters, the casters stamped C&O PATENT

Lot Essay

This canterbury derives from a design by John C. Loudon published in 1833 in his Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833. A canterbury of the same design was sold anonymously, Sotheby's, London, 25 September 1998, lot 170 and another was sold anonymously, Christie's, New York, 23 January 2002, lot 515.
