A large Longquan celadon dish
Ming dynasty, early 15th Century
Heavily potted, the interior carved with a fruiting crab apple tree surrounded by various flower sprigs in the petal-carved well, with detached foliate sprays on the everted rim below the raised, bracket-lobed edge, the exterior also carved with vertically arranged flower sprigs below a band of foliate scroll on the underside of the rim, all under a glaze of rich tone, an unglazed ring on the base burnt red in the firing, rim restoration

I, London, 1986, pp. 228, 300-301, nos. 233-39, which are given a date of "c. 1400", and no. 243, which is given a date of "early 15th century".
