after Jacques Caffieri, the drum-shaped case modelled as a howdah on an elephant's back, with a Chinaman seated above (formerly holding a parasol), on naturalistic base, the foliate dial with individual white enamel Roman cartouches and Arabic chapters incised on the border, the twin going barrel movement with Brocot escapement and countwheel strike on bell (missing), French, last quarter 19th century -- 21½in.(54.5cm.) high
