the baluster case with plain and hob-nail-cut side fluting, with faceted neck and socle, with fishscale, stiff leaf and beaded rim, a dish to the top, winged caryatids to the sides with fruiting baskets on their heads, on square base cut to the underside, the plinth with leaf cast border, on circular milled feet, the circular gilt dial with egg-and-dart and beaded bezel, with black-painted Roman chapters and moon hands, engine-turned centre, enamelled ring with minute divisions to the outside and plaque to the inside, the twin going barrel movement with platform lever escapement and countwheel strike on bell stamped twice with a star and 222 -- 14in.(35.5cm.) high
