This carpet was woven in commemoration of the end of the first world war. It is reported that originally the piece was to be presented through the British Embassy in Tehran as a Royal Gift to His Majesty King George V, who is depicted alongside Queen Mary beneath the words "War Eclipse". Each depicted with their National flag, the eleven portraits surrounding the central battle scene account for the leading figures of both the Central Powers and the Allied Forces.
