A ROMAN BRONZE STRIGIL
1ST CENTURY A.D.
With L-shaped curving blade, the rectangular handle folded back upon itself, the whole with punched ornament, comprising an altar, stars, a trefoil motif and a fish, repaired, 13¾ in. (35 cm.) long overall; a Roman sheet bronze bear forepart forming the handle of a cosmetic implement, with thick curled pelt, open at the base showing remains of compact residue within, with 'glass' bowl with further loose residue, Asia Minor, 2nd Century A.D., bear 2¼ in. (5.7 cm.) high, bowl 1½ in. (3.8 cm.) high; a Greek bronze ladle handle, the ribbed stem terminating in a duck head, with long bill and two scrolling tendrils either side, 5th Century B.C., 5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) long; and a Greek bronze swing handle, ring for suspension at apex, ends recurved with hound head terminals, circa 4th Century B.C., 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) high (4)
