A PAESTAN RED-FIGURE KRATER, ATTRIBUTED TO ASTEAS
CIRCA 360-350 B.C.
Side A: Dionysos with head thrown back, carrying thyrsos, phiale and beaded wreath, Pan with well-detailed hirsute legs, in front carrying torch and horn, in procession to the right
Side B: two standing draped youths, holding stick, 'skewer of fruit' and hanging fillets
Palmettes and scrolling tendrils below the handles, an encircling band of waves below, a laurel wreath below the rim, details in added white
