A COPTIC TEXTILE FRAGMENT WITH TWO HORSEMEN
CIRCA 6TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
Each horseman or Coptic saint(?) carrying two tall lotus stems, the prancing horses decorated with double cross ornaments on their breasts, a surrounding border with coloured blocks and circular face-like motifs, busts in two roundels below, remains of tasselled edge on one side, mainly blue, green and red details on red background, glazed
9¼ x 6 in. (23.5 x 15.2 cm.) approx.
