Lacape, Paris, with full-scale keyboard and over-damper action, the 61-note barrel section operated via a 62-key frame and seven-air barrel driven by a footmotor from a third pedal, with a spare barrel stored below, in ebonised upright case of conventional form with doors to the barrel compartment and ormolu carrying handles and candle sconces -- 55½in. Lot Essay

An unusual barrel piano, both in its use of a foot motor (i.e. a pedal-powered flywheel) to drive the barrel, and in having a normal, fully dampered piano action and keyboard. The 62nd key in the barrel action operates the sustaining pedal. The instrument is an interesting fully mechanical predecessor of the player-piano.
