Le Picador
a rare French clockwork toy made for the Paris exhibition of 1878, the composition-headed man and horse with original paint, costume and trappings, the former with large hazel eyes, moulded side burns and grey hat, wood hands and vara, green satin blouse and white trousers decorated with metal braids and beads, the brown papier-mache horse with light brown glass eyes, moulded black mane and tail, leather harness, green card stirrups and dark red velvet trappings, in original box marked Ondine, probably Roullet Decamps mechanism, made by the makers of the swimming doll --7½in. (19cm.) long (box repaired)

A simiar toy is listed as Roullet & Decamps No.115 Cheval sauteur cavalier in their catalogue for 1878, the year of the Paris Exposition Universelle.
