Lot Essay

The high quality of the bisque, elaborate mould and beauty of expression would suggest that the doll was created to rival Jumeau's 'modele unique'. Her sad expression, unusually long face with the high forehead and slight pouting mouth achieve a fair copy, but it is strange that she is painted with no upper lashes. It is possible that unlike the original, she originally had sleeping eyes with lashes attached.
