Lot Essay

Little is known about the artist's dates of birth and death, although Peschier might have been born in France and subsequently moved to Leiden. It was there that the artist became known for his VANITAS, hunting and breakfast still lifes of which the present lot is a fine example. Peschier's paintings are rare: at present only some five works are known by the artist, datable to between 1659 and 1661.
