Lot Essay

Gibson was born in Glasgow and after service in the Boer War turned to art. His output was predominantly landscapes, influenced strongly by the Dutch School and Corot, with a colour palette of subdued silvery grey, greens and browns. His favourite subjects were river views in Scotland and Holland, often featuring powerful leaden skies.
