A fine 19th-Century lacquered-brass 3¼-inch table telescope,
signed on the backplate W. & S. JONES, 30 Holborn LONDON, the 42-inch long body-tube with lens cap, starfinder and rack and pinion focusing, mounted between two curved A-frame supports from a rectangular platform atop a tapering brass column, the base with mahogany-handled worm-screw horizontal adjustment with ivory-handled clamp and a telescopic support rod to each end of the body-tube, on three folding inswept feet, with short and long eyepiece extension tubes, three astronomical and three terrestrial eyepieces, in a fitted mahogany carrying case with an attractive label in the lid London Bought of W. & S. Jones etc dated 1830, and with three manuscript pages of instructions for use --114.4cm. (45in.) long
