A late 18th/early 19th-Century lacquered-brass portable equatorial telescope,
signed Gilbert & Wright London, the 8½-inch long body-tube with lens cap and draw-tube focusing (one retaining pin missing), mounted over a flat plate with bubble level atop a vernier arm with retaining pin, fine-screw adjustment and clamp to read off a graduated vertical half-circle, raised over a horizontal equatorial ring graduated in twice twelve hours, with a small vernier and rotating handle, the equatorial ring raised on a larger vertical half-circle with fine-screw adjustment and clamp, the vernier on a short turned brass support from the 5¼-inch horizontal circle with twin bubble levels, 0-360° circumference scale, vernier and clamp, on a splayed tripod foot with three adjustable screw feet -- 29.5cm. (11 5/8in.) high
