An early 19th-Century 10-inch diameter English celestial table globe,
CARY'S New Celestial Globe, on WHICH The whole of the Stars to the fifth Magnitude inclusive; with part of the sixth are correctly laid down Calculated to the Year 1800 London: Made & Sold by J. & W. Cary Aug. 1802, made up of two sets of twelve engraved half-gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the axis through the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in twelve times 1-30° with sigils for the houses of the Zodiac, the stars shown to six orders of magnitude labelled with Greek characters and Arabic numerals, some named, the constellations depicted by dotted line boundaries (discolouration and rubbing throughout, several small areas of paper loss), with a stamped brass meridian ring graduated in four quadrants, in a mahogany table stand with engraved paper horizon ring showing graduations in degrees, compass directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, the horizon raised on four curved quadrant supports to a short turned column with three inswept legs terminating in pad feet -- 47.5cm. (18¾in.) high
