HIGHLIGHTS FROM AN EXTRAORDINARY FAMILY COLLECTION
Lots 1-429
The offering presented here represents only a portion of this family's wine cellar that has grown too large for current drinking needs.
Driven by a passion for and a profound knowledge of the greatest wines of the past generation, this collection has been formulated with an unerring search for quality and rarity.
In many areas of the wine-producing world, only the very best are represented. Low yield and micro-production Burgundies are all here. The stunning wines of Lalou Bize-Leroy, both from Domaine Leroy and d'Auvenay, are offered in never-before-seen breadth and depth. All the Grands Crus are here in vintages from 1989 to 1999; bracketing the ultra-successful decade for Burgundy. For comparison; two great 1959s from her father's Maison Leroy.
The Domaine de la Romanée Conti offering is led by a rarely seen original wooden case of the unforgettable 1978 vintage with consecutively numbered labels as they were originaly put in the case! This rare find graces the front cover of the catalogue. Other highlights include an array of assortments including the 1990.
In white burgundy Leflaive, Ramonet and again Domaine d'Auvenay compete for honours. In addition two beautiful cases of Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche 1989, Corton Charlemagne, Leroy 1992 and Montrachet, DRC 1976 are not to be out done.
Bordeaux highlights include Pétrus 1982 in double-magnum, Montrose 1990 (a personal favourite) and a wonderful range of mature vintages from all the top châteaux of the médoc and the right bank.
The great names of Italy are all present; Gaja, Tignanello, Scavino and Sandrone amongst others. It is Sassicaia, perhaps, that is the greatest of all and the 1985 vintage is a legendary wine. Here the 1985 vintage, in both bottles and magnums, is framed by the 1982, 1988, 1990 and 1997 - what a roll-call!
Leaving no stone unturned this collection equally showcases the three great single vineyards in Côte Rôtie from Guigal. Vertical offerings take us from the highly successful 1991 to the modern marvel of 1999.
California is represented by some mature, classic cabernet sauvignon wines that will bring immense pleasure.
This collection has been judiciously assembled by a passionate collector. The wines have been purchased from the most exceptional sources both in the US and Europe. All wines were bought en primeur or upon first commercial release.
These wines were removed from a temperature controlled, professional storage facility and from a small wine storage facility at one of the family homes. All conditions have been documented when necessary, but it should be stated that condition is generally exceptional and indicative of the utmost care in storage.

Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: six bottom neck and six very top shoulder
In original wooden case
"The 1982 Lafite possesses a dark, dense ruby/purple color with only a subtle lightening at the rim. Spectacular aromatics offer jammy cherry and black fruits intertwined with lead pencil, mineral, and smoky wood scents. Powerful for a Lafite, this wine unfolds to reveal extraordinary richness, purity, and overall symmetry in addition to stunning flavor depth and persistence. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. Plenty of tannin remains, and the wine displays a vibrancy and youthfulness that belie its 18 years of age. The modern day equivalent of Lafite-Rothschild's immortal 1959, the 1982 will enjoy another 30-70 years of life! An amazing achievement! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2070." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #129 (June 2000)
