Lot Essay

Accompanied by Rolex original fitted presentation box and outer packaging.

In 1953, Rolex set the base of an unequaled success story with the launch of the first Submariner model. Originally promoted as "the diver's friend", the Submariner became soon the world's most legendary tool watch and, generations later, is still enjoying wide popularity in its actual version.

The present watch is from the first series of reference 5513, launched in 1962 and featuring the highly attractive and thought after black lacquer dial with gilt hands, minute divisions and writing.

The model is illustrated in Rolex Submariner by Guido Mondani & Lele Ravagnani, pp. 128 & 129.
