The present watch was made upon special request by the Automobile Club of France and presented in 1932 to their president, the Vicomte de Rohan.
The Vicomte de Rohan, born in 1884, was the descendent of one of the oldest noble families in France. He held an university degree in science but started his career in medicine. During World War I he served as a fighter pilot and was decorated Commander of the Legion of Honor.
In 1928, the Count was nominated President of the French Automobile Club and the National Federation of Automobile Clubs. Active in the international world of motor sports, he played an important role in the development of worldwide motor car regulations and was appointed honorary President of the World Tourism and Automobile Organization as well as the International Automobile Federation.
The ébauche for this unusual watch was supplied by Victorin Piguet and finished by Breguet. The company Victorin Piguet of Le Sentier began making fine ébauches for complicated movements for prestigious firms such as Breguet during the 1920s. Though they never produced watches under their own name, they are associated with the highest quality craftsmanship and most unusual complications.
