From a set of four continents, modelled as an Indian princess seated on a crocodile holding a cornucopia filled with fruit and flowers in her left arm and a parrot perched on her right, wearing a feather cape, headress and skirt and jewel and pearl bracelets, a palm tree behind on a mound base applied with flowers

Lot Essay

The figure was first modelled in October 1745 probably inspired by an engraving by Collaert after Martin de Vos. Cf. The Nyffeler Collection; Christie's, London, 9 June 1986, lot 52 for a variant example of the subject.
