The present figure is from a series of figures made by Meissen between 1748-1750 and derived from Christoph Weigel's engravings published in Nuremberg in 1721 to commemorate the celebrations held by the Saxon court on the Plaueschen Grund in 1719 on the occassion of the marriage of Friedrich August, later Augustus III, and Maria Josepha von Habsburg. The miners performed the Saturn Fest from a series depicting the Planets.
