Lot Essay

Herman Schmitz, Ole Olsens Art Collections, II, Munich p. 34, no. 1463, plates 55, 56 (incorrectly described as the Podbielski Service)

The present plate is from a service made for Heinrich Graf con Podewils (1695-1760) minister to Frederick the Great and Knight of the Prussion Order of the Eagle, probably given to him for his role in allying Saxony and Bavaria with Prussia during the first Silesian war.
