The present vase was originally conceived as part of a three or five-vase garniture. This type of applied forget-me-not blossom ground is first mentioned in J.J. Kändler's Taxa for June 1740: 'Wiederum zu einem ganz neuen Service, welches mit den sogenannten Blühmgen Vergiss mein nicht auss sauberste beleget und blau, wie est die Natur vermag, gemalet werden sollen... mit Ästlein und Blättern imitiert...'.
