Finely painted with a three-quarter length portrait of the statesman half turned to the left, wearing somber day dress of a white foulad shirt, black vest and brown jacket, his white hair en queue in a black ribbon, signed along the right edge, the reverse inscribed in ink 'Henry Austin Whitney. from William W. Tucker Jany. 1. 1860 Sent to me from Paris H.A.W.'
