The rectangular padded seat covered in 19th century petit point upholstery over foliate scroll-headed cabriole legs joined by a waved stretcher on foliate-carved feet, losses to gilding

Lot Essay

This tabouret's serpentined frame is wrapped by Roman foliage in the Louis XIV 'antique' manner popularised in the later 17th century by the engravings of Jean and Pierre Lepautre. A related stool, with similar waved cabriole legs, formerly in the collection of the Dukes of Newcastle, Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire, was sold anonymously; Christie's, London, 12 June 1997, lot 66.
