This subject is one of the famoust sculptures created by Ferdinand Parpan alongside with animals, nudes and musicians. Another cast of that sculpture is part of the collections of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Rouen. Ferdinand Parpan exhibited regularly in numerous group exhibitions such as the 'Salon des Indépendants', the 'Salon de l'Art libre' or the 'Salon d'Automne'. In 1994 he won the Paris Silver Medal for his exhibition at the town hall in the 6th arrondissement

Dessinateur, peintre, graveur et sculpteur, Ferdinand Parpan (1902-?) est formé par son père, lui-même sculpteur. Il commence à exposer tardivement et participe à de nombreuses expositions collectives telles le Salon de l'Art Libre ou celui des Indépendants.
Il obtient la médaille d'argent de la Ville de Paris et expose à la Mairie du 6ème arrondissement en 1994.
Le pêcheur est l'un de ses sujets les plus connus à côtés de sujets animaliers, de nus et de musiciens. Une autre fonte de cette oeuvre fait partie des collections du Musée de Rouen
