Lot Essay

See an anonymous sale, Christie's, New York, 31 May 2000, lot 517 for a vase of the same form signed and date George Owen 1907. Also see Henry Sandon, Royal Worcester Porcelain, London, 1978, p. 31 for a discussion on George Owen's experiments with incredibly fine piercing. During a tight period at the factory, Owen worked months at a time without pay on these specialty pieces in hopes they would sell directly to collectors.
