A French 'Japonaise' ormolu and turquoise-ground porcelain-mounted jardiniere

Of rectangular form, the guilloche rim above tapering sides, the front and back with shaped openings framing porcelain plaques decorated with swallows circling a blossom branch, the ends with scrolled pierced handles terminating in a grotesque mask, above a pierced fretwork base and butterfly-mounted scrolled feet

An identical model jardinière, with gilt-bronze rather than porcelain side panels, was sold Christie's East, 29 March 2000, lot 187 ($6,325).
