Lot Essay

Circa 1905 Charles van Wijk married Anna Maris, daughter of the painter Jacob Maris (1837-1899). They had three sons who were a cherised subject in Van Wijk's work. Besides portraits and reliefs he also made a hand or foot in marble, terracotta or plaster.
