Lot Essay

Dressers of this type were made for prosperous farmhouses and manor houses in Yorkshire, and typically had shelves above the base. The use of fluted pilaster decoration is typical and they have great physical stature. A related dresser was sold by Tennants at Field House, Sowerby Bridge in 1985, and is illustrated in B.D.Cotton, Storepiece and Status symbol,Collectors Guide,February 1986.
