Although this chair is not a typical Salisbury pattern, it does nevertheless incorporate some features which would indicate an origin in this region, including the repetitive gouged decoration, the leg turning and the framing of the panel in the back. Other features such as the scrolling toprail and the fleur-de-lys motif filled with what may be grapes, are rather idiosyncratic. The pyramid finials to the back uprights may well be a later alteration, or may have been repaired.
