This kilim fragment was once part of a much larger piece similar to one discovered in the Mukaddem Mosque in Ankara and now in the Vakiflar Museum, Istanbul (B. Balpinar and U. Hirsch: Vakiflar Museum Istanbul, Flatweaves, Wesel, 1982, pl.13, pp.80-1). Both make use of small amounts of white cotton to contrast sharply with the otherwise very sombre colouring.
