Blade hirazukuri, mitsumune, slight curve, forging pattern very tight koitame with jinie, tempered edge hoso-suguha of konie, slight ashi, ko-maru boshi with medium kaeri, gomabashi on ura, ken on omote, tang ubu, machi-okuri, three holes, double gold habaki, nagasa 29cm., sori 1.5cm., motohaba 2.5cm., in shirasaya

Lot Essay

There were probably as many as fifteen different smiths named Kunitoki in the Enju School of Higo province, working from the Kamakura through to the Muromachi Period. From the shape of the blade this piece appears to date from the Nambokucho or early Muromachi Period.
