Unsigned, attributed to Yukimitsu, Late Kamakura Period (14th Century)
Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri, shallow toriizori, extended chu-kissaki

Kitae [forging pattern]: running o-itame, chikei, jinie

Hamon [tempering pattern]: komidare in sukuha of konie, kinsuji

Boshi [tip]: o-maru

Horimono [carvings]: bohi on both sides

Nakago [tang]: suriage, kiri, two holes

Habaki [collar]: double, copper-gilt

In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]

Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 69.4cm.

Sori [curvature]: 1.5cm.

Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 3.2cm.

Sakihaba [width before tip]: 2.2cm.

Lot Essay

Attributed on the registration document to Yukimitsu. The blade characteristics of the fine Soshu style tachi are in accordance with the work of Yukimitsu, although kissaki of such length usually indicate later work.
The registration document has a note that the sword was once in the collection of Ono Kokei. He may have been the late Living National Treasure sword polisher.
