Signed Bishu Osafune Tadamitsu Bunki 2-nen 2-gatsu hi (1502), Muromachi Period
Blade hirazukuri, iori-mune, forging pattern ko-itame with jinie, tempered edge gunome of nie, ko-maru boshi, horimono of a ken on the omote, bonji on the ura, tang ubu, one hole, gilt copper double habaki, nagasa 20.4cm., motohaba 2cm., in shirasaya, with a red and black ribbed lacquer saya and tsuka, shibuichi menuki formed as fish, plain shibuichi kozuka mounted as an urazashi aikuchi, 19th Century, 34cm.

Lot Essay

As this is dated 1502, the tanto is probably the work of Hirayuemon Tadamitsu, son of Hikobe Tadamitsu II, and grandson of Gorozaemon (no) Jo Norimitsu, the fourth Tadamitsu of Osafune.
