A RARE WHITE AND BLACK JADE OPENWORK 'DRAGON' ORNAMENT
YUAN DYNASTY (1279-1368)

Carved in high relief to depict an ascending five-clawed dragon in a powerful pose, its body coiled, the head in profile, detailed with a pair of horns and a truncated snout, all raised on a ring formed by eight bracket-lobes, the sides evenly pierced with four narrow slots for attachment

Compare the portrayal of the horned dragon with its truncated snout with a dragon finial dated to the early Yuan period, in the Beijing Palace Museum collection, illustrated in Zhongguo Yuqi Quanji, Hebei Meishu Chubanshe, 1993, vol. 5, p. 109, no. 166.
