This cup was very probably made early in the Yongzheng period, as it compares quite closely to late Kangxi cups and bowls. This can be seen in its shape where the deep sides rise to the rim without any change in gradient, very similar in style to the cup in the Shanghai Museum, illustrated in Kangxi Porcelain Wares, Hong Kong, 1998, pl. 135, and the bowl, ibid., pl. 159. In addition, the mark on the base of the latter example also compares closely in its style of calligraphy to the present Yongzheng cup. The manner in which the dragons and clouds are painted is also very similar to those found on Kangxi wares. No other Yongzheng bowl of this design appears to be published.
