Lot Essay

The term langyao derives its name from Lang Tingji, director of the official kilns, 1705-1712, who is credited with the revival of monochrome glazes, and in particular, copper-red glazes. Cf. a slightly taller langyao bottle vase sold in our New York Rooms, 20 September 2002, lot 358.
