KANGXI (1662-1722)
Decorated in enamels and gilt with an unusual scene of five soldiers asleep under a circular tent, a sixth being awoken by an agitated soldier approaching the group at the left, within a brightly enamelled hexagonal cell-pattern band reserved with tied emblem cartouches below the rim, minor rim chips and fritting infilled
15 in. (38 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Compare the slightly smaller dish, with very similar scene, although the soldiers are awake, and within a very similar band at the rim, illustrated in Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, no. 120, where it is stated that the scene depicts the story of the Generals from the Yang family.
