Lot Essay

Conceived in plaster in 1939 and cast in bronze in 1961 in an edition of nine, plus 0/9, an artist's copy. The original plaster was subsequently destroyed by the artist when the bronze was cast. The present sculpture, cast 9/9 in the edition is one of the three artist's casts.

This work will be included as BH113B in the forthcoming revised catalogue raisonné, currently being prepared by of Dr Sophie Bowness.
