These rings were presented to Loyalists by Henrietta Maria for financial support to the Royalist cause on the understanding they would be redeemed when War was over. These pledges (rings, clasps and lockets) were redeemed for the amount of the loan or for an honour. This ring, which was presented to the Gresley family of Drakelow, Derbyshire, was never redeemed, and is sold with two explanatory documents.
